THE BEAUTY INTERVIEW

THE DANCING ON ICE STAR LOVES THE MALDIVES AND SIMON COWELL AND CAN’T UNDERSTAND THE FUSS OVER HER DRESSES. INTERVIEW BY TABITHA LASLEY
I WILL ALWAYS WEAR THE SAME CLOTHES. Back in series one [of Dancing on Ice] I wore the same dresses. I’m not quite sure why someone suddenly picked up on it [her low-cut dresses] and it kind of escalated. It is very strange.
I’M NOT VERY GOOD WHEN IT COMES TO BEAUTY. I do try. The older I get, the more I’ve started looking after my skin.
I always use a really good moisturiser. If I’m going to be out in the sun, I’ll use a night cream, as it’s a little bit heavier.
I GOT MARRIED A YEAR AGO. It’s great. I highly recommend it. We went to the Maldives. Once you’ve sampled that kind of beach, turquoise sea and white sand, nowhere else really compares. I’ll definitely go back.
I’D LOVE TO GO TO SOUTH AMERICA, somewhere exciting, a bit more trekky, like the jungle, but when you haven’t had a holiday all year and you’ve been non-stop, all you actually want to do is lie flat out on a beach and not move.
IT’S NOT LIKE YOU GO TO A PRESENTER SCHOOL and come out with an honours degree. The majority of good presenters started in kids’ telly – Phillip Schofield, Ant and Dec, Cat Deeley, Tess [Daly], Me, Fearne… You’re learning on the job but in a more forgiving field. There’s not that much live programming being made for kids now and they don’t have the money to make big live TV shows.
Suddenly there’s a big gap and there aren’t presenters coming through.
Anybody could do it, you just need the opportunity to practise.
WE’RE ALL CALLING IT ‘THE LEONA EFFECT’. People who might previously have gone ‘hmm… X Factor’s not for me’ have suddenly changed their mind.
SIMON [COWELL] IS GREAT, he’s really nice. He’s welcomed me in and made me feel like I’m part of the team. He’s incredibly professional and brilliant at his job. I know everybody is waiting for them [Cheryl and Dannii] to have a massive argument, but honestly, I’m there every day, snooping around backstage, listening to everything, and there’s nothing going on, the girls are absolutely fine with each other.
CHILDREN ARE DEFINITELY SOMETHING I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO, but I’ve a lot of living and a lot of work to do first.
Dancing on Ice starts in January on ITV1
