The beauty interview

Amanda Holden

The 38-year-old actress and Britain’s Got Talent judge would use Botox again, prefers being a blonde and just got married. Interview by Tabitha Lasley.

Britain’s Got Talent will never work with four judges. The buzzers are what makes us different from The X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing and those other shows. You need three crosses to be buzzed out, and you need three yesses, so with four, it never came to a full conclusion.

Kelly [Brook] was actually quite good when it came to stuff like the dances, because she’d been on Strictly Come Dancing and stuff like that.

She contributed where she had the knowledge, but it just wouldn’t have worked whoever had taken over.

I started using Botox when filming Wild at Heart in South Africa. I was constantly squinting and frowning in the sun and found that it helped with the lines. It’s something I’d use again.

I don’t see having Botox as a problem. It’s like Simon [Cowell] said, it’s there to enhance what you’ve got and it stops you going under the knife – but again that’s something I wouldn’t say no to.

I got married last December and we went to the Maldives for our honeymoon. It was like being in heaven. We had a house on stilts in the sea, a private butler, and the water was so clear.

Since I had Lexi [her daughter], I don’t sit still on holidays any more. I would like a flop-and-drop break with the kids this year but how ‘flopping and dropping’ it will actually be with children, I don’t know.

On holiday, I put sunscreen on and don’t wear much make-up. In the evenings, I’ll just do a bit of mascara and lipstick, but I won’t put foundation on, because that sun-kissed look you get from being on holiday is just perfect – it’s what you try and create with your foundation.

I like being blonde best. I’m blonde inside. The dark red colour I absolutely loved but I found I had to put a lot more make-up on to balance it out. In the daytime I looked a bit like a vampire.

I’m currently working on a new BBC sitcom called Big Top. It’s set in a circus; kind of like The Vicar of Dibley in a tent. It’s one of the funniest things I’ve read for a long time.
