Amy Adams

The 34-year-old starlet might look like a Disney princess, but there’s more to the fairest one of them all than meets the eye

You might recognise her doll-faced features and tumbling strawberry blonde locks from her turn as a princess in Disney’s Enchanted, but Amy Adams’s rise to starlet status has been far from fairytale perfect.

She served beer in shorts and skates at Hooters before landing her breakthrough role in the acclaimed Junebug, where she played a naïve pregnant wife that earned her an Oscar nomination.

But Adams can plainly do more than wear a puff-ball gown (and pull a beer). She showed her funny side as aviator Amelia Earhart in the comedy Night at the Museum 2 (showing onboard) with Ben Stiller, and donned a nun’s habit in Doubt alongside Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Maybe Streep’s Oscar-clinching talents will rub off on Adams when they join up again in the food-tastic Julie & Julia (out 11 September), in which she plays a woman who finds meaning in her life by cooking every recipe from Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking. And next year, she’ll appear in Leap Year, a romcom co-written by Slumdog Millionaire screenwriter Simon Beaufoy. A Hollywood happily ever after? We think so.
